Monument to the Conquerors of Space

Description
The monument is 107 in high and it is a rocket what flies to the space and leaves the white vapour trails on the sky. On the bottom part of the monument there is a picture of the first man who was in the space Yuri Gagarin. He is going up stairs to the space. Behind him there are people who together with Yuri had opened the door into new world.
Also there is a memorial inscription on the bottom part of the memoria: “And the reward for our efforts was that, having triumphed over oppression and darkness, we have forged wings of fire for our land and our century!” and below “In honor of great attainment of Soviet Union people in exploration of space this monument was established in 1964”. And dates of the first launching of artificial Earth satellite and the first human flight to the space.
Under the monument there is Memorial Museum of Astronautics. There is a monument to father of astronautic theory Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky.
Creation history
Idea of the monument was burn immediately after the successful launching of the first artificial Earth satellite. In 1958 was organized the design competition. In 1964 in honor of the 7th anniversary the launching of the first artificial Earth the monument was established next to All-Russia Exhibition Centre.
How to find
Go to metro station VDNKh and exit forward to the All-Russia Exhibition Centre. On the street from the left side of the metro station you will see this Great monument to the Conquerors of Space.
