Memorial Museum of Astronautics

The museum has big collection of the technical achievements 20th century what gave to people way to the space. You can follow and touch to the each step on the way to the space. From the first artificial satellite of the Earth and the first animals (Soviet space dogs - Belka and Strelka) in the space till the first space station “Mir”.
You will see a spacesuit of Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin and the spacesuit of Russian cosmonaut Alexey Leonov who was the first man who went out to the open space. Also you can see the gateway, through this gateway Leonov went to the open space. There is the Soviet Union Moonwalker what also was the first landed on the moon. Also in the museum you will see real descent vehicle what is used now by cosmonauts from all world.
Main part on the museum it is the model of the space station “Mir”, the first space station in the world what was created by Soviet Union's scientists and where cosmonauts could live and make different experiments. Also you can virtually visit the Mission control center and see where the International Space Station is now. You will surprise when you’ll see the Russian spacecraft “Buran”. This spacecraft is unique because it was launched and landed without people on the board. Unfortunately it was only one flight after that this space program was closed. But it gave to people great experience on the way to the space.
In the museum there is a big collection of different satellites, rockets from different countries where a space program is. Also you will know what and how cosmonauts eat. You will see different daily thing like a toothbrush and even sport’s simulators. And you can touch the meteorites.
Creation history
In 1960 Sergei Korolev proposed to create the museum of cosmonautic. But decision was made in 1967. And just in 1981 museum under the monument to space explorers in VDNH was opened for visiting.
How to find
Go to metro station VDNH and exit to the exhibition area. Next to metro station you will see monument to space explorers. There is the Memorial Museum of Astronautics.
