Description

The monument to Shota RustaveliThe monument to Georgian writer of the 12th century Shota Rustaveli is hiding in the shade of trees of the Georgievsky Square in west side of Moscow. There is a sculpture of the writer on the top of high rectangular red granite pedestal. Shota Rustaveli looks like an ancient brave warrior. He is holding the scroll in his right hand.

On the front side of the pedestal there is a memorial inscription “To Shota Rustaveli the great Georgian writer and thinker”. On the left and right sides of the pedestal there are quotations from his most famous epic poem “The Knight in the Panther's Skin”: “If evil will defeat the goodness it will become indefinitely in this world”, “Who don't try to find a friend he's an enemy to himself”.

Creation history

The monument was established in 1966 in honor of 800th anniversary of the writer.

How to find

Go to metro station Barrikadnaya and exit to the Krasnaya Presnya Street to the Zoo. On the crossroad with Big Georgia Street turn right. On this Street go to the Georgian Square and  here in the Georgian garden next to the Museum creative workshop of sculptor Zurab Tsereteli you will find the monument.
