The monument to Nicholas I looks grandiosely but not proportionally. A huge pedestal with a sculpture oh the top of it. Nicholas is sitting on a horse. The pedestal is decorated luxuriously. There are four sculptures of the women around the pedestal. They are Power, Justice, Confidence and Wisdom. If you will more careful in women’s face you can recognize the wife of Nicholas and their daughters. There are bas-reliefs of the main events of this time on the pedestal. The monument was a unique for those times because it was the first monument in Europe when horse’s sculpture had just two fulcrums.
Creation of the monument started in 1856 after the death of Nicholas I and it took three years. Into this project were involved big amount of the sculptors and architects.
Go to metro station Sadovaya (Garden) and exit to Grivtsov lane. On this lane go to north. Pass Griboyedov Canal and go till Moyka River and turn left toward Blue Bridge. Pass this bridge and you on Saint Isaac's Square where you will see this great monument.
