Monument to Leo Tolstoy

Description
The monument to the famous Russian writer Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy it is a big monolithic sculpture of the writer which was cut from the one big gray granite stone. The writer is sitting in the armchair and probably thinking about new chapter of novel “War and Peace”. On the bottom part of the monument there is a signature of Leo Tolstoy which is very simple, just his name and family name. The monument looks very massive and nobly.
Creation history
The monument was made by the sculptor Portyanko A.M. and the architects Bogdanov V.V., Sokolov V.P. and was established in the square of the Girlish field (Devichie pole) in 1972, in year of the 144th anniversary of the writer`s birthday.
How to find
Go to metro station Park Kultury (Koltsevaya Line) and exit to the Garden Ring Street. On the street turn left and go along the Garden Ring till the Zubovskaya area where you should again turn left on the Zubovskaya Street. On the Zubovskaya Street go about three hundred meters till the square Girlish field where at the entrance to the square you will find the monument to the famous Russian writer Lev Nikolayevich Tolstoy.
