Description

Monument in honor of the fans who died on 20 October 1982 in the Olympic complex Luzhniki.A monument in honor of the fans who died on 20 October 1982 in the Olympic complex Luzhniki it is a big stele which looks like the stands of the football arena. The main element of the monument it is a image of the grieving mother. On the right site of the monument there is a memorial inscription, - “Moscow, Luzhniki 1982 20 October”. Under the inscription there are names of the 66 fans who died in the throng which occured during the football match of UEFA cup between Moscow Spartak and Holland Haarlem.

On the left side of the monument there are names of the cities around the world where occurred the same tragedy. The monument was placed on the big, square and white pedestal. On the pedestal you can see the memorial inscription on frourt languages, - “In honor of the fans who died on the stadiums around the world”.

Creation history

In 1992 by the initiative sport club “Spartak” the monument was established on the alley next to the central football arena Luzhniki at the stands C and B.

How to find

Go to metro station Sportivnaya (Sports station) and exit to the Street Hamovnichesky Val. Cross the Street Hamovnichesky Val toward the Olympic complex Luzhniki. Go to the sport complex through the main entrance. From the main entrance on the main alley go toward the monument to Lenin next to the main arena. At the monument to Lenin turn right and go along the arena about 140 meters and there from the right side you will see the monument in honor of the fans who died on 20 October 1982 in the Olympic complex Luzhniki ( Luzhnetskaya embankment bld.24 /1).
