Monument to Nikolai GogolThe monument to famous Russian classic writer Nikolai Gogol is big bronze sculpture of writer on the big granite pedestal. Nikolai Gogol is stands in the traditional cloak and holding his notebook, maybe with notes of the second volume of Dead Souls.

On the pedestal is memorial inscription: “To great Russian artist of words Nikolai Gogol from the Soviet Union government 2 march 1952”.

Creation history

The monument was established in 1952 instead of another monument to Gogol. Joseph Stalin did not like old monument. It was too depressive monument of writer.

How to find

The monument is at the end of Gogol boulevard next to Arbatskaya square. Gogol boulevard b. 33/1. Go to metro station Arbatskaya (Filyovskaya Line) and exit to the street to the cinema “Hudogestvennui”. Next to cinema go to the underground crossing and cross the Arbatskaya square. Turn left and go on the street till Gogol boulevard b. 33/1. Here you will find the monument to Nikolai Gogol.
