Description

When a wave of technological progress didn’t cover cities, in the streets you could see an interesting person. Usually he sat next to Entry to restaurants or hotels. He wore an apron over his casual clothes and in the hand they held black brush. In front him there was a wooden box where someone who has dirty shoes could put their leg on this box and shoeblack cleaned shoes. Now instead of shoeblack in the hotels there is a machine for cleaning shoes.

However sometimes in the street you can see this small stooping man, who still is sitting next to a wall of the building with brushes in his hands. In Nizhny Novgorod in the Big Pokrovskaya street you can see the sculpture of shoeblack.

Creation history

The sculpture was established in 2006 - 2007 at the beginning of the Big Pokrovskaya street bld. ½ next to the square of Minin and Pozharsky. This sculpture also is part of the project to place on the Big Pokrovskaya street sculptures of people who lived in Nizhny Novgorod in the late 19th century.

How to find

By bus (routes: 19, 40, 52, 58) go to bus stop square of Minin and Pozharsky. Pass the square and go to the Big Pokrovskaya street. Next to the building №1/2 you will see the sculpture – shoeblack.
