Rostral columns

Description
Two Rostral columns have terra-cotta color height of 32 meters is decorated with rostrums of ships. There are stone sculptures at the bottom of columns. These sculptures are symbols Russian rivers. Also columns are decorated with the anchors and on the top of the columns there are flare bowls.
Creation history
The columns were being built during five years. Because the columns are composed of different materials then during the building these materials were changed on others. Also these rostral columns were lighthouses. Later the columns were connected to the gas and now on the holidays you can see flame in the flare bowls.
Traditions
Traditions of the creating the columns come from ancient Rome where after the victory in the naval battle started build the columns and decorate them rostrums of ships.
How to find
Go to metro station Sportivnaya (Sports station) and exit to Dobrolubova avenue. On the avenue go till the crossroad with the Mytninskaya embankment. Through the Academician Likhachev square go on the Birzhevoy Bridge (Exchange Bridge). Cross the Malaya Neva (distributary of Neva River) and after the bridge on the Makarov Embankment turn left and go till the Stock exchange in the Saint Petersburg. Here in the square next to the plan of the Stock exchange from the bronze and the monument – anchor you will see these beautiful columns.
