Monument to Mikhail Sholokhov

Description
The monument to the famous and the popular writer, who wrote the epic novel The Quiet Don, Nobel Laureate Mikhail Sholokhov is placed on the Gogol Boulevard. The monument is the big bronze sculpture composition.
On the stony pedestal what covered bronze is placed bronze boat. In the boat is sitting Mikhail Sholokhov. On the pedestal is placed the memorial inscription “To Mikhail Sholokhov”. The pedestal is part of composition and it is a river where in the boat is floating Mikhail Alexandrovich.
Behind him in the river are swimming horses. They are dividing on two groups and are swimming in the different sides. It’s symbolizing the division of the Russian people on the Reds and Whites during the Civil war at the beginning 20 century.
On the composition is included a fountain, it imitate the river. In the opposite side of boulevard there is a bench.
Creation history
The Creation history of monument begins in the eighties when was a competition for the monument to Mikhail Sholohov. First place took project by Julian Rukavishnikov. But project was delayed and after ten years his son come back to this monument and in 2007 on the Gogol Boulevard was established the monument to Mikhail Sholohov.
How to find
Go to metro station Kropotkinskaya and exit to Gogol Boulevard. On the Boulevard go to the building ¹ 10 where the branch of the museum of the modern Art is. In front of the museum there is the monument to Mikhail Sholohov.
