Monument to Maxim Gorky

Description
The monument to Maxim Gorky it is a sculpture of writer his full height. The height of the sculpture is 7 meters. It’s placed on a long rectangular pedestal. The pedestal seems carved from a stone. Also on the pedestal there is a memorial inscription; “M. Gorky”. Maxim Gorky is looking into the distance beyond the horizon. His jacket is moving by wind.
Creation history
In 1939 was announced a competition to create the monument in honor of the Russian writer Maxim Gorky. The first place took the famous sculptor Vera Mukhina. However the project was frozen because the Second World War began. Just in 1952 on the reconstructed square on Gorky in Nizhny Novgorod was established the monument to the famous Soviet Union writer.

By bus (routes: 26, 41, 43, 64, 68) go to bus stop Big Pokrovskaya street. On this street go to the Maxim Gorky square. Here on the square you will find the monument to Russian writer Maxim Gorky.
