Monument to Chkalov

Description
The monument to Soviet Union’s test pilot, hero of Soviet Union Valery Chkalov is a sculpture of pilot in the full height on the cylindrical pedestal. Valery is standing with folded arms. He is looking toward the sky. He was first pilot who flew from Moscow to Vancouver via the North Pole. On the pedestal there is a map with the route of Moscow to Vancouver flight. Also there is a memorial inscription on the pedestal. “1904-1938, to Valery Chkalov the Great pilot of our time”.
Creation history
The monument to Chkalov was established in 1940 on the square next to the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin. From the bank of Volga River to the monument leads beautiful staircase.
How to find
Go to bus stop the Cutter hero. (routes: T117, T42) In front of Monument to the Cutter hero you will see the Beautiful staircase Chkalov. Go upstairs and there next to the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin you will see the monument to the Great pilot Valery Chkalov. (Verhnevolzhskaya bank street b. 10A).
