Description

The monument to Alexander IIThe monument to the Emperor and Autocrat of All the Russias Alexander II it is a big bronze sculpture of Alexander II to his full height. He is dressed in the uniform and mantle thrown over his shoulders. The sculpture is placed on the big, black, cylindrical pedestal.

There is a memorial inscription on the pedestal. “In 1861 Alexander II canceled the serfdom and freed millions of peasants from centuries of slavery. He carried out military, judicial and administrative reforms. He introduced the system of local government, municipal councils and rural councils. He ended the war in the Caucasus. Alexander freed Slavs from "the Ottoman yoke" .He died March 1, 1881 as a result of a terrorist act.”

The monument was established in 2005 next to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour.
