Description

The obelisk in the Alexander GardenThe high obelisk was made from the granite from Finland. There are nineteen names of the famous political figures of Soviet Union on the obelisk. There is an inscription R.S.F.S.R (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic) and the political slogan "Workers of the world, unite!" on the bottom part of the obelisk.

Creation history

The obelisk in the Alexander GardenThe obelisk was established in 1914 in honor of the celebration 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty. There were written the names of the tsars from the Romanov dynasty and it had a name obelisk of Romanov. There was a coat of arms of the Romanov boyars over the names of the tsars. On the top of the obelisk there was a double-headed eagle. On the bottom part of the obelisk there was a bas-relief of the Saint George. After the October Revolution in 1917 the new government thought to destroy the obelisk but it was changed and now you can see the new obelisk. In 2013 in the National Unity Day to the obelisk was back original form.

How to find

Go to metro station Aleksandrovsky Sad end exit to Aleksandrovsky Sad. Turn left and go along the Moscow’s Kremlin wall till the upthrust where you will see this obelisk.
