Description

Monument to the kopeck of 1612 - YaroslavlThe monument to the kopeck of 1612 it is a copy of the coin with the diameter almost one meter. The kopeck was placed on the white pedestal which looks like a merlon “Dovetail” of the Moscow Kremlin Wall. From the one side of the coin there is an image of the Saint George, from other side of the coin there is an inscription with the name of the last Tsar of Rurik dynasty Feodor I of Russia. The coin is turning around its axis on the pole of the flag which was mounted on the merlon. On the pedestal there is memorial plaque with memorial inscription – “Kopeck 1612”.

Creation history

The monument to the kopeck was established in 2013 on the territory of the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Yaroslavl on the initiative of the chamber of Commerce and Industry of Yaroslavl. The monument was established in Yaroslavl because here in 1612 was temporary mint while Moscow was occupied by Polish interventionists.

How to find

By buses 4, 4A, 13, 16, 41, 41B, 72 or by trolleybus 72 go to the bus stop Bogoyavlenskaya (Epiphany Square) Square. From the bus stop turn left and go along the walls of the friary till the Pervomayskaya street. Here turn right and again go along the walls of the friary till the crossroad with the Kotorosl embankment. Here again turn right and go till the main entrance to the friary. When you will be on the territory of the friary go to the center past the bell-gable, the church of Yaroslavl wonders-workers Fedor, Davide and Konsctantin and Cathedral of Holy Transfiguration which shall be right of you. After the Cathedral on the crossroad you will find the monument to the kopeck of 1612.
