Description

The monument to famous Germany philosopher of XIX century Karl Marx looks powerful and monumental as his immortal work “Capital”. The monument was made from big Light-gray granite and shows us like philosopher is standing on the rostrum and is performing the speech. There is a famous sentence and political slogan from his “The Communist Manifesto”: “Workers of the world, unite!” on the front side of the monument. On the right side of the monument there is another memorial inscription: “To Karl Marx from Communist Party and nations of Soviet Union”.

Behind the monument from the right and left sides from the monument there are two wide steles with picture of the Hammer and sickle and two memorial inscription: “The studies of Marks is all-powerful because it is Right. Lenin” on the left stele and “His name and his work will live for ages. Engels” on the right stele. Around the monument there are few flower beds.

Creation history

Vladimir Lenin had proposed the idea to create the monument to Karl Marks and in 1920 on the Theater square was established foundation stone however the monument was established just in 1961. In 1957 was organized a competition on the best project of the monument. The sculptor Lev Kerbel had won this competition and with big team of the architects had made the monument during four years and in 1961 the monument was established on the theater square.

How to find

Go to metro station Teatralnaya and exit on the Theater square. On the street cross the street Theater passage and turn left. Pass the parking on the left side from you there will be a square. In the center of this square you will see the monument to Karl Marx.
