Monument in honor of the peacekeeping soldiers in Balashov

Description
The monument in honor of the peacekeeping soldiers in Balashov it is a sculpture of the peacekeeping soldier who was mortally wounded in the chest. With what is left of one`s strength he goes through the rocks under the fire of Afghanistan Mujahideen. By the left hand he is covering the wound on the chest and the right hand he is stretching to the sky.
Behind the soldier there is a double stele which is a symbol of the mountains in Afghanistan. Inner shape of the rocks looks like a shadow from that soldier with the fire of the freedom in his right hand which still burning in his wounded heart. There are names of the twelve citizens of Balashov who went for support friendly people of Afghanistan.
The monument was placed on the low black pedestal. There is a memorial inscription of the pedestal, “In honor of the peacekeeping soldiers”. Behind the monument there is a commemorative plaque with historical note about the war in Afghanistan 1979 – 1989.
Creation history
The monument was established in 1990 in Balashov on the crossroad between the Working Street and Lenina Street in honor of the glory and feat of the citizen of Balashov who were in Afghanistan 1979-1989.
How to find
By buses 3, 8, 5a go to bus stop at the Garnaev gymnasium on the crossroad between Working Street and Lenin Street. Cross Working Street and turn right. Go till the crossroad and turn left and after ten meters in front of the gymnasium you will find the monument in honor of the peacekeeping soldiers. (Lenin Street bld. 22)
