Sculptor: Nensi Shen
The sculpture consists of a duck leading eight ducklings. The sculpture stand on the bank of a pond at the Novodevichiy monastery. It is a copy of a sculptural composition which was established in 1987 in the Boston sculptural park in honor of a famous American children's story written by Robert McCloskey in the fifties.
In 1991 this sculptural composition was presented by Barbara Bush to Raisa Gorbacheva. In due course parts of the composition had been plundered. In 2000 the composition was restored and the ducklings were fixed by armature that they could not be stolen. The opening of the restored sculpture was attended by ambassador of the USA to Russia James Collins, Mikhail Gorbachev with his daughter, and the minister of culture Mikhail Shvydkoj.
The composition is a favorite both with children, and adults.
Go to metro station Sportivnaya (Sports station) and exit Forward 10 letiya of October Street (10th Anniversary of October). Turn right and on this street go 622 meters (7 minutes of walking). Go by the monastery to the pond. Go down to the big Novodevichiy pond and bypass it on the right side and on opposite coast you will find this sculptural composition.
