The monument to Chizhyk-Pyzhik

Description
One of the smallest monuments in Saint Petersburg Chizhyk-Pyzhik is placed in unusual place. There is a small sculpture of the bird on the small pedestal. It is mounted on the on the stone bank of Moyka River next to the First Engineer Bridge.
Creation history
The monument to Chizhyk-Pyzhik was established in 1994 during the festival “Gold Ostap”. Idea was taken from popular song about Chizhyk-Pyzhik. This song was written on honor of students of the Imperial School of Jurisprudence. Students of the school were called as Chizhyk-Pyzhik cause they wore uniforms with yellow and green colors as color of the bird Siskin.
Tradition
There is a tradition there. You should make a wish and throw a coin to the pedestal. If you will be success and coin will be on the pedestal your wish will come true. On the wedding there is another tradition. Use the thread the bridegroom should lower a glass of wine to Chizhyk-Pyzhik and knock to beak and you married life will be bright, long and full of love. Do not break the glass.
How to find
Go to metro station Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard) and exit to Garden street. On this street go to north till Moyka River. Pass the Saint Michael's Castle and on the embankment of Moyka River turn right. Go till the First Engineer Bridge where Moyka River meet with Fontanka River. Here next to bridge you will find this small but interesting monument.
